We were recently named one of Sacramento Magazine's Top Dentists of 2018!
Since Dr. Mahnaz Moussavi, DDS, first established Summit Dental in September 1997, she and her team have provided quality care to the greater Sacramento area. Her practice focuses on preventative care for the entire family, including children. Dr. Moussavi feels strongly that by diagnosing and treating any problems early, major intervention can often be avoided. She is conservative in her treatments, and is always happy to work with her patients to design a treatment plan that fits with their schedule and budget.
In addition to preventative care, Dr. Moussavi is a preferred provider for Invisalign. She has been certified in Invisalign since 2003, and has helped many adults and teenagers achieve their perfect smile.
Dr. Moussavi additionally trained in UCLA's Cosmetic Dentistry program and has provided cosmetic treatment to many of her patients since 1999.
Dr. Moussavi also completed a General Practice Residency at University of Pittsburgh's Montefiore Hospital, with an emphasis in Oral Surgery. Thus, she is especially skilled in extracting impacted wisdom teeth, removing thousands of them thus far.
Finally, Dr. Moussavi is certified to do Implant Surgery and Restorations from Nobel Biocare. She has restored many implants in her office.
Dr. Moussavi prides herself on providing a very hygienic and comfortable environment to treat her patients.
Comprehensive examination of teeth and soft tissue (gums & oral mucosa), including oral cancer screening. X-Rays are taken at the first visit to evaluate oral health, and as needed at following visits.
Dr. Moussavi aims to restore teeth in a comprehensive and conservative manner. She primarily uses composite fillings that are bonded to the teeth and preserve 90% of the strength of the natural tooth.
Dr. Moussavi completed the Implant Surgery program to gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of implant dentistry. She focuses on the restoration of the implants, and refers her patients for the surgery portion to the best-trained implant surgeons in Sacramento. As implant surgery can be difficult to correct if not done properly, she wants to ensure her patients receive the best care possible from the start.
Dr. Moussavi primarily uses porcelain crowns bonded to the tooth structure, which are superior both aesthetically and functionally to traditional crowns. Crowns are considered a major procedure, and are only done when the natural tooth structure is not sufficient to withhold the mastication forces and the tooth cannot be restored by other means.
Invisalign is a revolutionary orthodontic technology that replaces traditional metal braces with clear, removable aligners. It can straighten teeth and treat crowding, crossbite, spacing, and bite issues.
Gums and bone also require care to ensure their strength as the foundation of oral health. Unhealthy gums cause bone loss, systemic disease, bad breath, and a very unpleasant smile. With routine cleaning, we prevent gum disease. We also offer deep cleaning and scaling to restore the health of patients' gums, and provide referrals to excellent periodontists for more severe cases.
Veneers are thin layers of a cosmetically appealing porcelain that bind to the outer surface of the tooth structure. They improve the appearance of misshapen, discolored, or fractured teeth. We can also correct minimally misaligned teeth with veneers when orthodontics is not required.
We offer full dentures, partial dentures, and over dentures (implant-supporting dentures) that look like natural teeth.
Dr. Moussavi moved with her husband to Sacramento in 1991. She raised her 3 daughters in El Dorado Hills, who are all now pursuing medicine. She is a member of Sacramento Dental Society (SDS), California Dental Association, and American Dental Association. She has served as a member of the Peer Review Committee for SDS for 14 years. She also is committed to serving underserved communities through CDA Cares.

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Moussavi for over 15 years and we can both honestly say she is without a doubt, the finest dentist we have ever had...We have found her to be a kind and caring person who puts our needs first.
I’m so thankful I found Dr. Moussavi. I finally found a dentist I feel safe with. She has done a lot of work on my teeth and I’ve never been uncomfortable in her chair despite having a dental fear. She even pulled my son’s tooth in such a way, he didn’t know it was out! Did I mention she has an all female practice? Love it!
I have been a patient of Summit Dental/ Dr Mahnaz Moussavi for the past 22 years and now my older kids are too. I always love her work, she is a perfectionist and passionate about her job. She is friendly, and very professional. She will help you out in an emergency. She is very gentle and kind. Going to the dentist is not my favorite thing to do but I know I’m in good hands with Dr Moussavi and her staff. I love her hygienists and secretary too!
I was looking online for a dentist and funny enough I found someone with almost the same last name as I do. So I decided to go there and it was absolutely fantastic! I never ever had such a professional, caring and knowledgable dentist in my life. I moved from Germany to the US a while ago and had some good experiences throughout my life but Dr. Moussavi is definitely on another level. It is easy to tell that she loves what she is doing and that she has a huge passion for her patients. I’m living in San Jose right now but every time I have to go to the dentist I will make the effort and drive up to Sacramento. I can highly recommend her. If you care about your dental health, make the step and go to Summit Dental.

Most patients benefit from a professional cleaning and exam every six months. Patients with a history of gum disease may need more frequent visits.
No. X-rays are taken at your first visit to establish a baseline, then only as clinically needed going forward — not on a fixed schedule.
Yes, every comprehensive exam at Summit Dental includes an oral cancer screening as a standard part of your visit.
No. Composite fillings are shade-matched to your natural teeth, making them virtually undetectable in normal conversation or smiling.
With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, composite fillings can last many years, though they may eventually need to be replaced depending on wear and bite forces.
Generally the opposite — composite bonds directly to the tooth, which typically requires removing less healthy tooth structure than traditional metal fillings.
Dr. Moussavi focuses on implant restoration and works with trusted, experienced implant surgeons in Sacramento for the surgical placement, ensuring coordinated, high-quality care throughout.
Timelines vary based on healing time and whether bone grafting is needed. Your treatment plan will include an estimated timeline after your consultation.
Yes. Implants can support individual crowns, multi-tooth bridges, or full implant-supported dentures depending on your needs.
With proper care, porcelain crowns can last many years, though longevity varies based on oral hygiene, bite forces, and grinding habits.
Yes. Porcelain crowns are custom shade-matched to blend naturally with your surrounding teeth.
It depends on how much healthy tooth structure remains. Dr. Moussavi will always recommend the most conservative option that restores your tooth's strength and function.
Treatment length varies by case, but many patients complete treatment in about 12–18 months, depending on the complexity of their alignment needs.
Absolutely. Invisalign is popular among adults specifically because the aligners are clear and removable, making treatment far less noticeable than traditional braces.
Yes, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing, then placed back in — offering more flexibility than fixed braces.
Common signs include bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, gum recession, and tenderness or swelling. Regular checkups help catch these signs early.
A regular cleaning addresses plaque and tartar above the gumline, while a deep cleaning (scaling) targets bacteria and buildup below the gumline to treat early gum disease.
For more severe cases, Summit Dental provides referrals to trusted periodontal specialists in the Sacramento area to ensure patients receive the right level of care.
Veneers require a small amount of enamel removal to place, making the process generally irreversible, though the veneers themselves can be replaced as needed over time.
This depends on your goals — some patients choose a single veneer to correct one tooth, while others opt for a full set to redesign their entire smile.
For minor misalignment, veneers can create the appearance of straighter teeth without orthodontic treatment. More significant misalignment may still require Invisalign or braces first.
Traditional dentures rest on the gums, while overdentures snap onto dental implants for added stability, less slipping, and improved chewing strength.
Timelines vary depending on the type of denture and whether extractions or implants are involved. Your treatment plan will include a personalized timeline.
Yes. Dentures and partials at Summit Dental are custom-designed to closely match your natural teeth and gum tissue in shape and color.
